As
can be seen from the attached photo the extension
is progressing at
> a cracking rate. Lockup stage should be achieved
by the Easter
> weekend. Ken Baxter is expecting to start the
stonework (with a crew
> of cross country stonemasons ? what a perfect
combination) after the
> 16th of March. Electrical work is progressing
including replacement of
> wiring in the old building. The drainage system
is nearly completed.
> Thanks to Bryce for his work with the backhoe
? the site is now
> relatively dry with the drainage pits in place.
>
> We have also had nearly 1000 hours of volunteer
labour, so far, which
> is conservatively valued at $20,000. We can
claim 50% of this value as
> ?in kind? support. Our thanks to all those
who have attended the
> working bees.
>
> We have spent, as of March 6, $151,000. We
have received the first
> instalment of the Sport and Rec grant funding
- $118,000. Expected
> additional expenditure to completion is around
$150,000. During the
> past month we have received generous support
from local companies ?
> Mitre 10 and TLE Electrical. We also received
crane hire to the value
> of $3000 from Perisher Blue and a cash donation
of $2000 from City
> Tatts/Boonoona.
>
> We have enough reserves to cover items of expenditure
that are
> identified but there are bound to be costs
that we have
> missed/forgotten or miscalculated. We will
shortly be sending out the
> appeal for the 2008 instalment of the $100/10yrs
program. Please
> consider donating early this year if you are
already a donor. Please
> also think about your friends who use the Shelter
? the people or
> families who will benefit from this project
but haven?t gotten around
> to supporting it financially ? and encourage
them to donate. Wider
> cross country community support would be a
great help.
>
> If you are not a part of the $100/10yrs program
but are a regular user
> of the Nordic Shelter please feel free to make
a tax deductible
> donation. We will still need to fund refurbishment
of the old building
> during the next summer ? items include replacement
windows, cladding
> and updating the present kitchen area. Furnishing
of the extension
> will also need to be covered.
>
> Working bees will be held on the following
weekends: March 15/16,
> Easter weekend, March 29/30, April 5/6. If
you, your club or group can
> help let us know which time would suit ? we
have plenty of tasks to
> complete. We would also like a group to spend
some time on the trails
> before the coming winter. Remember that accommodation
is available at
> Canberra Alpine Club ? contact Peter Cunningham
to arrange access
> (62999641). There are also opportunities to
help during the week if
> anyone has time to spare.
